Pakistani Cyclists Shine at Asian Road Cycling Championship with Historic Performance

Lahore: Pakistani cyclists made history at the Asian Road Cycling Championship held in Thailand, securing a remarkable sixth-place finish in the tournament, the country’s best-ever performance. The athletes brought home a total of six medals, including two gold, two silver, and two bronze.

Ali Ilyas Jawaid led the charge with an impressive victory in the Individual Time Trial (ITT), clinching gold in the Men’s Master Open (35-39 age group). He completed the 21.4 km course in 26 minutes, 30.556 seconds, maintaining an average speed of 48.44 km/h, finishing a full minute and 14 seconds ahead of Thailand’s Narongdat Sangchai, who took silver. Ilyas also earned a silver medal in the Road Race (IRR), further showcasing his exceptional performance.

In the women’s category, Rabia Gharib emerged as a star, securing both gold and silver medals. She won gold in the IRR and silver in the ITT, proving her versatility and strength across events. Zainab Rizwan, another key Pakistani cyclist, added two bronze medals to the collection, one each in ITT and IRR. Rizwan’s bronze in the 40-44 age group was particularly notable as she completed the course in one hour, 15 minutes, and 13 seconds.

This stellar performance at the Asian Road Cycling Championship marks a historic milestone for Pakistan, demonstrating the country’s rising prominence in the sport.
