Pakistan Vows to Promote Global Peace, Stability: Army Chief

Islamabad-(Mudassar Iqbal)-General Syed Asim Munir, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, addressed the Margalla Dialogue 2024 in Islamabad, emphasizing Pakistan’s crucial role in promoting global peace and stability. Organized by the Islamabad Policy Research Institute (IPRI), the event focused on Pakistan’s contributions to regional harmony and international peace.

General Munir highlighted the world’s pressing challenges, including the rapid spread of misinformation, growing influence of non-state actors, and technological advancements ¹. He emphasized that false information and hate speech threaten political and social structures, while unrestricted freedom of speech erodes moral values. Munir also noted the rise of global inequality, intolerance, and divisions along religious, sectarian, and ethnic lines.

Pakistan, according to Munir, is committed to addressing critical challenges like climate change, terrorism, and global health delivery. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to fighting terrorism, securing its western borders, and expecting the Afghan Interim Government to prevent terrorist activities.

Munir condemned India’s extremist ideology, citing cruelty in Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and threats to minorities abroad. He advocated for a UN-resolved Kashmir solution and establishment of an independent Palestinian state. Pakistan has provided humanitarian aid to Gaza and Lebanon and will continue to promote peace and stability without engaging in global conflicts.

Notably, 235,000 Pakistanis have participated in UN peacekeeping missions, with 181 sacrificing their lives for world peace. Pakistan’s strategic location, natural resources, agricultural production, rare minerals, and freelancing capabilities make it vital for trade in Europe, Central Asia, and the Middle East.

General Munir’s address underscored Pakistan’s dedication to regional and global peace, leveraging its unique strengths to promote harmony and stability. As the 11th Chief of Army Staff since 2022, Munir brings extensive experience, having served as Director-General of the ISI and Military Intelligence ¹. His leadership is crucial in navigating Pakistan’s complex geopolitical landscape.

Munir’s military career began in 1986, and he has in various positions, including Director-General of the ISI and Military Intelligence, and has received awards such as the Hilal-i-Imtiaz and Nishan-i-Imtiaz ¹. As Chief of Army Staff, Munir has handled various challenges, including the economic crisis and political unrest, while making efforts to improve Pakistan’s relations with other countries, particularly the United States.

In his personal life, Munir is known to be a conservative figure who values his Islamic faith and has memorized the Quran. His father, Syed Sarwar Munir, was the principal of the FG Technical High School and the imam of a mosque in Rawalpindi
