Pakistan Calls For Immediate Ceasefire Warns Of Regional Instability
NEW YORK: (Web Desk) – Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Asim Iftikhar Ahmad has urged an immediate ceasefire in Iran, warning that continued military escalation poses a serious threat to peace and stability across the Middle East, on Sunday.
Addressing a session of the United Nations Security Council, the Pakistani diplomat said halting hostilities without delay was essential to prevent the conflict from widening further. He emphasised that all sides must strictly adhere to the UN Charter and comply with international law in all circumstances.
Iftikhar also condemned attacks not only against Iran but against several Gulf states, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates. He strongly denounced reported attacks affecting Pakistani nationals in the UAE and called for ensuring their safety and protection.
UK Says Forces Defensive Only Amid Iran Conflict
Voicing deep concern over the deteriorating regional situation, the envoy said the attack on Iran came at a time when diplomatic initiatives were actively under way. He urged all parties to show restraint and patience, warning that continued violence undermines peace and security throughout the region.
He also expressed sorrow over reports of civilian casualties in Iran, including students, and conveyed condolences to the bereaved families. Reaffirming Pakistan’s long-standing stance, Iftikhar said all disputes must be resolved through dialogue and peaceful means in line with international law.
