Rs 500 Million Web Series Planned on Jinnah Iqbal

ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – In Islamabad, Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal announced a landmark initiative to produce a world-class historical web series on Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Muhammad Iqbal.

The decision was taken in principle during a high-level consultative meeting chaired by the minister, which brought together leading media houses, producers, directors, and key figures from Pakistan’s creative industry.

Ahsan Iqbal stated that the upcoming 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal will go beyond symbolic ceremonies. Instead, they will serve as a milestone for national renewal and intellectual revival. He emphasized that meaningful storytelling is a powerful nation-building instrument, especially for connecting younger generations with Pakistan’s ideological foundation, constitutional journey, and core national values.

The minister highlighted that Quaid-e-Azam’s constitutional struggle and Allama Iqbal’s intellectual vision will be presented as part of a broader global narrative to showcase Pakistan’s ideological heritage and intellectual depth.

Calling historical dramas an effective tool of soft power and cultural diplomacy, he stressed the importance of partnerships with the creative industry to promote Pakistan’s positive image internationally.

To support the initiative, the government will provide seed funding of up to Rs 500 million for high-quality productions. Academic workshops will also be organized for writers and producers to ensure thorough historical research, authenticity, and intellectual substance.

Participants agreed on developing a comprehensive strategy to transform Pakistan’s national history into a source of soft power. They also underlined the importance of ensuring effective representation of Pakistani historical content in global markets and discussed the need to seriously consider launching indigenous OTT platforms.

Ahsan Iqbal reiterated that the thoughts and struggles of national heroes will be presented in a compelling and accessible manner for younger audiences through drama and digital platforms. He expressed confidence that these anniversary celebrations will mark the beginning of a broader movement of national reconstruction and intellectual resurgence, positioning Pakistan’s intellectual legacy prominently on the global stage.
