Pakistan to Launch Secure Government Messaging App “BEEP”

BEEP App Introduces Enhanced Encryption for Secure Government Communications

Islamabad: Inspired by China’s WeChat platform, Pakistan has decided to launch its own messaging application, BEEP, exclusively for government officials to ensure secure and reliable official communication.

The National Assembly Standing Committee on IT and Telecom was informed that the BEEP application is nearly ready, with a project deadline set for June 30, 2026. Committee Chairman Syed Aminul Haque directed the Chief Executive Officer of the National Information Technology Board (NITB), Faisal Ratyal, to ensure the app’s timely completion.

The committee was briefed that the application has been developed locally and verified by all relevant government institutions. Faisal Ratyal told lawmakers that the primary objective of launching BEEP is to provide government employees across the country with a secure messaging platform.

He said the rollout will be carried out in phases, starting with federal ministries and attached departments. The initial rollout is expected to begin within the next two months, and the app will be integrated with the federal e-Office system to facilitate secure messaging, document sharing, and workflow coordination within government institutions.

Developed in Pakistan, the BEEP app offers strong security features, including full encryption for text messaging and video calls used by government officials. The committee recalled that concerns about data protection and official communications were raised in 2024 amid global conflicts, prompting the inclusion of enhanced security features in the app.

Faisal Ratyal further explained that BEEP extends end-to-end encryption to video communications, making it suitable for sensitive government discussions. Responding to a question about operational costs, he said the app will operate on a usage-based fee model, with plans to gradually make the platform financially self-sustaining over time.
