Pakistan takes action to evacuate Nationals Stranded in Syria

Islamabad: Pakistan has initiated efforts to ensure the safe return of its citizens stranded in Syria, as the region faces heightened tensions. Over 350 Pakistanis have successfully crossed the Lebanese border and are now in safety, with arrangements underway for their repatriation to Pakistan.

A special flight, coordinated by the Civil Aviation Authority under the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, is scheduled to depart from Beirut Airport within the next 48 hours to bring the stranded nationals back home.

Prime Minister Sharif, addressing the critical situation, had earlier reached out to his Lebanese counterpart, Prime Minister Najib Mikati, for support in evacuating the citizens. With all airports in Syria currently closed due to the ongoing crisis, evacuation is only possible via land routes through Lebanon. PM Sharif emphasized the urgency of the situation, as approximately 600 Pakistanis are still in Syria. Mikati has assured Pakistan of Lebanon’s full cooperation, pledging to issue visas to all Pakistani nationals and facilitate their evacuation.

In a separate development, Pakistan’s Foreign Office condemned Israel’s recent aggression against Syria, describing the attacks as a violation of international law and a threat to regional stability. Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch reiterated Pakistan’s strong support for Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, urging the international community to take decisive action to stop Israeli aggression. Pakistan also reaffirmed its commitment to UN Security Council Resolution 497, which calls for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied territories.
