Pakistan Suspends Mobile Services in Key Cities for Chehlum Observance
Mobile phone services have been partially suspended in Rawalpindi and several other cities across Pakistan as a precautionary measure during the observance of the chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain and the martyrs of Karbala.
In Rawalpindi, mobile signals have been cut off along the main chehlum procession route, though service remains active in other parts of the city and in neighboring Islamabad.
In Karachi, mobile service began shutting down in various areas early Monday morning.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) officially announced the suspension of mobile services in six cities across Sindh, including Karachi, Khairpur, Hyderabad, Larkana, Sukkur, and Shikarpur. This decision follows orders from the Interior Ministry to maintain law and order during the chehlum events.
The Sindh Home Department previously stated on Sunday that the suspension would also affect Hyderabad, Thatta, Dadu, Sajawal, Badin, Mirpurkhas, Shaheed Benazirabad, Khairpur, Rohri, and Larkana.
The PTA confirmed that mobile services would remain offline throughout the day to ensure security during the chehlum processions. Authorities emphasized that while the suspension is temporary, it is a necessary step to maintain peace and prevent any potential incidents.
The PTA noted that this action was taken to uphold law and order and ensure security in Sindh.
