Pakistan, South Korea to Co-Host Key UN Peacekeeping Meeting in Islamabad

Pakistan Reaffirms Commitment to Global Peace

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and South Korea are set to jointly host a high-level United Nations peacekeeping meeting in Islamabad, aimed at enhancing global efforts for safer and more effective peace operations. The event will be held on April 15 and 16 at the Centre for International Peace and Stability (CIPS), located within NUST University, according to the Foreign Office.

Titled “Towards a Safer and More Effective Peacekeeping: Use of Technology and Integrated Approach,” the two-day conference will serve as a preparatory platform for the upcoming UN Peacekeeping Ministerial Meeting scheduled to take place in Berlin, Germany, in May 2025.

The Islamabad event will bring together key stakeholders, including senior United Nations officials, high-level Pakistani leadership, and international experts. Discussions will focus on the use of modern technology to enhance the safety and efficiency of peacekeepers, and on promoting a more coordinated global approach to UN peace missions.

Pakistan, one of the largest contributors to UN peacekeeping forces, has deployed over 235,000 troops to 48 UN missions worldwide. The country has also paid a heavy price, with 181 of its peacekeepers sacrificing their lives in the line of duty.
