Pakistan Set to Issue 5G Licences This Week
PTA to Grant 5G Licences Following Spectrum Auction Completion
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Pakistan is moving closer to the launch of 5G services, with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority expected to issue 5G licences to telecom companies later this week following the completion of the spectrum auction.
PTA officials said the licensing process will be carried out in three stages before telecom operators are formally cleared to roll out 5G services.
In the first stage, companies must submit a $15 million bank guarantee to the PTA to ensure compliance with the licence terms. One telecom operator has already submitted its guarantee, while the remaining two are expected to do so within the next one to two days.
The second stage involves formal approval of the 5G licence by the PTA, followed by a third stage where the authority will conduct a system inspection before issuing the necessary certification.
Officials added that all three successful telecom operators from the auction will receive their licences simultaneously, signaling a coordinated rollout of next-generation mobile services across Pakistan.
A formal licence-signing ceremony with the three operators is also expected to be held in Islamabad later this week, according to PTA sources.
This development comes after the completion of Pakistan’s 5G spectrum auction, a key step in modernizing the country’s telecom infrastructure and paving the way for advanced mobile connectivity nationwide.
