Pakistan will now face hosts Malaysia in the semifinal clash scheduled for today (Wednesday).
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s impressive run at the Asian Doubles Squash Championship continued on Tuesday as Nasir Iqbal and Noor Zaman secured a place in the semifinals after a gritty win over South Korea in the quarterfinals.
The second-seeded pair showed resilience and control to edge past the Korean team of Jeongmin Ryu and Jaejin Yoo in a tense three-game contest that lasted 37 minutes. After racing to a dominant 11-3 win in the opening game, Pakistan slipped in the second, going down 5-11 before regrouping in the decider, sealing it 11-4 to wrap up the match.
Pakistan will now face hosts Malaysia in the semifinal clash scheduled for today (Wednesday). Malaysia’s Syafiq Kamal and Duncan Lee, Pakistan’s opponents today, were also impressive in their 2-1 win over countrymen Ameeshenraj Chandran and Sanjay Jeeva.
Pakistan’s unbeaten run at the Asian Doubles Squash Championship has included wins over the Philippines, Chinese Taipei, and South Korea in the group stages as well. The duo’s form has been one of the highlights of the tournament, and their chemistry on court has been key to their progress. Noor Zaman, who earlier exited the Asian Individual Championship after a hard-fought five-game loss to Malaysia’s Joachim Chuah, has bounced back well in the team format.
