Pakistan Navy Day: Remembering Op Somnath, a Daring Raid on India’s Dwarka Naval Base_

Karachi_(Staff Reporter)-The Pakistan Navy is commemorating its Navy Day today, honoring the bravery and sacrifices of its veterans and martyrs, particularly those who executed the daring Operation Somnath in 1965. On September 7-8, 1965, seven Pakistani warships – PNS Babar, Khyber, Badr, Jahangir, Alamgir, Shahjahan, and Tipu Sultan – launched a surprise attack on the Indian naval base at Dwarka, located 120 miles from Pakistani waters.

The operation was a resounding success, with the base engulfed in flames within four minutes. The intense bombardment destroyed the Indian Air Force radar at the base, significantly paralyzing the Indian Navy. The Indian warships Mysore and Talwar, stationed nearby, failed to respond to distress calls and remained docked for the remainder of the conflict, demonstrating their fear and inability to engage.

Tribute to Pakistan Navy’s Bravery

The successful operation showcased the Pakistan Navy’s capability and resolve in the face of adversity, earning it a major strategic victory. Naval Chief Admiral Naveed Ashraf praised the heroic achievements of the veterans and martyrs, saying, “This day stands as an enduring tribute to the selfless sacrifices of our gallant officers and sailors, whose exemplary valor continues to inspire generations and inflame the spirit of patriotism across the nation.”

Operation Somnath remains a beacon of valor, symbolizing the Pakistan Navy’s unwavering enthusiasm and courage. The operation demonstrated unparalleled professionalism, dealing a significant blow to the enemy and signifying the Navy’s operational ascendancy.
