Pakistan Says It Is Closely Monitoring Iran Situation, Supports Peace

ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) -Pakistan on Thursday said it is closely monitoring the evolving situation in Iran and expressed hope that Tehran would overcome the crisis through peaceful means.

During his weekly news briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi reiterated Pakistan’s support for peace and stability in Iran, emphasizing that Islamabad favors dialogue and a peaceful resolution. He voiced optimism that the Iranian government would soon be able to manage and resolve the situation.

Addressing concerns over the reported suspension of US immigrant visa processing for 75 countries, including Pakistan, Andrabi said Pakistan remains in contact with US officials on the matter. He added that such reviews of immigration policies by the United States are routine in nature.

The spokesperson also shared updates on diplomatic engagements, noting that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently held a telephone conversation with the Emir of Qatar, with both sides agreeing to stay in close contact. He further said that President Asif Ali Zardari is currently visiting Bahrain, while Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar attended the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers meeting in Jeddah, where he reiterated Pakistan’s position on Somaliland.

Additionally, Andrabi strongly condemned what he termed inflammatory remarks by the Indian army chief, rejecting what he described as baseless allegations against Pakistan.
