Pakistan launches Space4Climate initiative for climate resilience
SUPARCO unveils GeoAI-powered platform to tackle climate challenges
RAWALPINDI: (Web Desk) – The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has introduced the Space4Climate Initiative, aimed at enhancing the country’s ability to respond to climate change through advanced space technologies.
At the heart of the initiative is a GeoAI-driven Climate Observatory, a comprehensive digital platform that combines satellite data, geospatial analysis, and predictive modeling to generate practical insights for policymakers, researchers, and communities.
The system is designed to monitor key environmental indicators, including air pollutants such as aerosols, sulfur oxides, and nitrogen oxides, along with greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide and methane. It also keeps track of forests, glaciers, coastal changes, river systems, and land use patterns.

In addition, the platform focuses on climate-related risks such as floods, droughts, heatwaves, sea-level rise, and glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs), providing early warning and data-backed assessments.
By integrating satellite observations with ground-based data, the initiative aims to support informed decision-making and sustainable development, aligning Pakistan’s climate efforts with global environmental goals.
