Pakistan Implements Strict New Regulations for Drone Cameras

KARACHI; The Ministry of Aviation has introduced stringent policy rules mandating the registration of drone cameras with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). Drone owners are required to complete this registration within four months of the policy’s issuance.

Under the new regulations, a “Remote Pilot Licence” will be issued by the CAA to individuals operating drone cameras. Drones are categorized into four groups based on weight, and both the import and export of these categories are now permissible. However, clearance from the Ministry of Defense is mandatory for importing drones.

Licenses for drone operation will be valid for up to three years. The policy strictly prohibits drone flights near borders, restricted areas, and within a 6 km radius of airports. Any accidents involving drones must be reported to the CAA, with penalties imposed for non-compliance.

Furthermore, CAA inspectors are required to inspect drones before they are permitted to fly. The government has established a coordination committee on drones, led by the Home Secretary and including the Director General of Airports Authority, among other officials. Any amendments to the policy rules will require the Prime Minister’s approval.

These measures aim to enhance the regulation and safe operation of drones in Pakistan.
