Pakistan Futsal Teams Secure Historic First International Wins
Pakistan futsal teams achieve historic SAFF wins as men and women secure first international victories in Thailand championship this year
Pakistan – (Special Correspondent / Web Desk) – Pakistan’s futsal journey reached a historic milestone at the SAFF Championship in Thailand, as the men’s team claimed their first-ever international victory on Friday—just a day after the women’s side achieved the same feat. Playing at Bangkok’s Hua Mak Indoor Arena, the men staged a strong comeback to defeat Bhutan 4–2 after trailing 2–0 early in the match.
Bhutan took an early lead through two quick goals from Dawa Shering, but Pakistan showed resilience. Hassan Zafar pulled one back in the 28th minute, followed by an equaliser from Asif Ahmed Chaudhry in the 32nd. Momentum fully shifted when Adnan Ashfaq scored twice in quick succession during the 34th and 35th minutes, sealing a memorable win for Pakistan.

Pakistan’s starting lineup included Tahir Khan, Hassan Zafar, Humza Nusrat, Nisar Hussain and Salar Khan, while several others contributed from the bench. The victory was especially significant after Pakistan had begun the tournament with a heavy 7–1 loss to the Maldives.
Earlier, the women’s team had already made history by defeating Sri Lanka 3–2, with Azwa Chaudhry netting a brilliant hat-trick to secure Pakistan’s first international win in women’s futsal. Together, the back-to-back victories marked a breakthrough moment for futsal in Pakistan.
Reacting to the landmark results, the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) said on Instagram that Pakistan’s women’s and men’s futsal teams had “created history by winning their first-ever international matches at SAFF Futsal 2026”.
The PFF said the teams delivered the wins “despite a lack of Futsal infrastructure in the country and the challenges”, adding that Pakistan women beat Sri Lanka 3–2 while the men’s team “came from behind to win against Bhutan 4-2”.
PFF President Mohsen Gilani credited the achievement to the resilience and efforts of the coaches and players, saying: “our players and coaches have made history and we will build on this foundation to take Futsal to greater heights and make Pakistan a force in Futsal”.
