Pakistan Forms First-Ever Women’s Tennis Association to Uplift Female Athletes Nationwide

PWTA to Launch Nationwide Girls’ Tennis Camps with Serena Hotel

Islamabad, April 15, 2025 — In a landmark move for women’s sports in Pakistan, the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) has officially launched the Pakistan Women Tennis Association (PWTA), marking a significant step forward in the promotion and development of women’s tennis across the country.

The historic announcement was made by PTF President and internationally renowned tennis star Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, who hailed the formation of PWTA as a dream turned reality. “I am very happy to witness the formation of Pakistan’s first Women Tennis Association. As President of PTF, one of my primary objectives was to establish a dedicated body to promote women’s tennis, and I am proud to see it become a reality,” said Qureshi. “PWTA will serve as a vital platform for the growth of women’s participation in tennis nationwide.”

PWTA Office Bearers Announced

The newly formed association will be led by a dedicated and passionate team of women:

  • Ms. Asma Khawar Khawaja – President

  • Mrs. Zaira Ahmad Zaka – Secretary-General

  • Ms. Sara Ibrahim Khan – Treasurer

Asma Khawar Khawaja, the first President of PWTA, expressed her commitment to uplifting women in tennis and thanked the PTF for their support. “I would like to thank Mr. Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi for making this vision a reality. Inshallah, PWTA will play a pivotal role in promoting and uplifting women’s tennis across Pakistan,” she said.

Training Camps and Youth Support Initiatives

PWTA is already taking bold steps to build a strong foundation for women in tennis. In collaboration with Serena Hotel Islamabad, the association plans to launch weekly training camps for girls in cities across Pakistan, aiming to provide professional coaching and increase grassroots participation.

In a further show of support, PWTA has committed to covering the entry fees for all Pakistani girls competing in the ITF Pakistan World Juniors Tennis Championship Leg-2, currently underway in Islamabad. This initiative reflects PWTA’s goal to ease the financial burden on young athletes and encourage greater participation at international events.
