Pakistan downed 10 Indian jets during May war: Trump

Trump Claims Economic Pressure Prevented Nuclear Conflict Between Neighbours

WASHINGTON (Web Desk): Former US President Donald Trump, while discussing the military confrontation between Pakistan and India in May 2025, claimed on Tuesday that Pakistan had shot down 10 Indian jets, according to television reports on Wednesday.

In an interview with Fox Business News, Trump warned that the tensions between the two South Asian nations had been approaching a potential nuclear conflict. He highlighted his approach of using economic pressure, including the threat of tariffs, to help prevent escalation during the clashes.

Trump also referred to remarks by Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who reportedly said that the former US president saved millions of lives by averting war.

The ex-president has repeatedly mentioned the incident to highlight Pakistan’s military success. On November 6, 2025, he claimed that “eight Indian aircraft were shot down” during the three-day confrontation. Similarly, on October 28, 2025, he stated that seven planes were lost during the brief escalation.

During a dinner with business leaders in Japan, Trump said, “If you look at India and Pakistan, they were going at it. Seven brand-new, beautiful planes were shot down.”

The May 2025 conflict was the most serious military escalation between the two countries in decades. It began after an attack on Hindu tourists in occupied Kashmir, which India alleged was backed by Pakistan—a claim Islamabad has repeatedly denied, calling India’s account “replete with fabrications.”
