Pakistan Discovers New Oil and Gas Reserves in Kohat
OGDCL discovers oil, gas at Bragzai X-1 well
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has discovered new reserves of crude oil and natural gas, providing a positive boost to the country’s energy sector. The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) announced the discovery in the Nashpa Block of Kohat district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to an OGDCL spokesperson, the Bragzai X-1 well is expected to produce 4,100 barrels of oil per day along with 10.5 million cubic feet of gas daily. The well was drilled to a depth of 5,170 meters, where a 187-meter hydrocarbon-bearing zone was successfully identified in the Datta Formation.

In the Nashpa Block, OGDCL holds a 65 percent share as operator, while Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) owns 30 percent and Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL) holds 5 percent.

The spokesperson said the new discovery will further strengthen Pakistan’s energy reserves and improve the country’s energy supply-demand balance through the development of local resources.
