Pakistan Confirms T20 World Cup Match Against India

Pakistan to Play Scheduled T20 World Cup Match Against India on February 15

ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – Pakistan has decided to play its scheduled T20 World Cup match against India on February 15, sources confirmed. Both teams are expected to follow the original schedule for the clash.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation with the President of Sri Lanka, during which the Sri Lankan President requested that Pakistan play the India match in Sri Lanka. After consultations, the Prime Minister informed the Sri Lankan President of Pakistan’s final decision to go ahead with the match.

Indian Media Claims PCB Set Conditions For India Match

The Sri Lankan President highlighted that Pakistan has consistently supported Sri Lankan cricket despite terrorism threats and emphasized the long-standing ties between the two countries. He acknowledged Pakistan’s commitment to continue touring Sri Lanka for cricket even under challenging security conditions.

Earlier, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi had commented on the situation during a press conference in Lahore after the PSL Multan team auction, stating that when guests arrive at your home, many differences are set aside. He added that discussions with the ICC were ongoing and that any updates would be shared in due course.

The decision comes after Pakistan initially refused to play India on February 15 in solidarity with Bangladesh, which had requested to move its World Cup matches to Sri Lanka citing security concerns in India. The ICC rejected Bangladesh’s request and replaced them with Scotland in the event.

Sources noted that canceling the Pakistan-India match could have caused significant financial losses for the ICC, making the decision to proceed crucial for the tournament.
