Pakistan Army Cadet Martyred in Terror Attack on Mosque in Lakki Marwat

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa-(Special Correspondent): A cadet from the Pakistan Army was martyred on Friday during an attack by banned terrorist group Khwarij on a mosque in the Lakki Marwat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to the military’s media wing.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) identified the cadet as Arif Ullah, a Pakistan Military Academy trainee who was home on leave and attending prayers at the mosque when the incident occurred. The attack took place during Maghrib prayers, with terrorists opening fire on worshippers.

In August, the government designated the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan as Fitna al Khawarij. The ISPR statement noted that the 19-years-old cadet “bravely resisted” during the attack, ultimately sacrificing his life to protect other worshippers.

The statement condemned the attack as a “heinous and cowardly act,” highlighting the group’s ideology. It also commended Cadet Arif’s bravery, describing his sacrifice as a testament to the commitment of security personnel to eradicate terrorism.

According to an annual security report by the Centre for Research and Security Studies, violence in Pakistan surged in 2023, leading to 1,524 deaths and 1,463 injuries from 789 incidents, including terror attacks and counter-terrorism operations. The report highlighted Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan as primary hotspots, accounting for over 90% of fatalities and 84% of recorded incidents, involving both terrorist actions and security force operations.
