Pak-US Relations Improve After COAS Munir’s Key Talks

A British newspaper has reported that a rare diplomatic approach by Pakistan has successfully influenced Washington’s stance. The change is seen as a positive sign for Pakistan’s foreign policy, showing that careful and well-planned engagement can bring results.

Pakistan – US – (Mudassar Iqbal/ Web  Desk) – Pakistan’s relations with the United States seem to be moving in a positive direction after an unexpected diplomatic effort by Field Marshal Asim Munir during his recent return visit to Washington, the Financial Times reported. His trip has been described as a turning point for strengthening ties between the two nations.

The British daily highlighted that Munir’s meetings with senior US officials were “warmly received” and signaled a clear improvement in bilateral engagement. During his visit, he also attended the retirement ceremony of US Commander Michael Kurilla — a gesture widely seen as a sign of growing military-to-military cooperation and mutual respect.

According to the Financial Times, Pakistan’s senior military leadership adopted a well-planned and patient approach to build trust with US President Donald Trump and other key decision-makers in Washington. This strategy appears to have opened new doors for collaboration and reinforced Pakistan’s position as a reliable partner in the region.

The paper said this “unusual diplomatic strategy” not only helped to improve ties but also reshaped the regional political landscape.

The report added that India has suffered a serious diplomatic setback as Washington shows an increasing tilt towards Islamabad, especially in the wake of recent Pak-India tensions. This shift, the paper suggested, is rooted in shared strategic interests and Pakistan’s ability to attract American attention towards mutual security concerns.

While relations between Islamabad and Washington have often fluctuated, the Financial Times described this moment as “unexpected” and “carefully orchestrated” by Pakistan’s top brass. Observers believe this could pave the way for more frequent high-level engagements and potential cooperation in defence, trade, and counterterrorism.
