Bajaur unrest forces many families to leave homes

 Khyber district (Special Correspondent/Web desk) Security forces have begun an operation in Bajaur district against nearly 800 militants. The district, home to about 300,000 people, has seen more than 40,000 residents forced to leave their homes due to the fighting.

Officials said a peace jirga between local elders and the militants failed after the elders asked them to leave the area and meet two other key demands
Authorities reported that around 300 militants are present in two locations of Mamond tehsil, while more than 350 are active in Khyber district. Officials added that over 80 percent of these fighters are Afghan Operation in Bajaur displaces thousands from their homes

Commissioner Malakand Division, Abid Wazir, said that preparations to accommodate displaced residents have been completed.

A total of 107 government buildings in Khar are being used to house affected families.

A tent village is also being set up at Khar Sports Complex to provide temporary shelter for those in need.
