Opening ceremony of Champions Trophy 2025 held in Lahore

LAHORE – The opening ceremony of the ICC Champions Trophy took place in Lahore, marking the start of a highly anticipated cricket tournament. The event was attended by a host of national and international cricketers, as well as ICC CEO Geoff Allardice.

Held at the historic Shahi Qila ground, the ceremony was graced by several prominent figures, including Punjab Sports Minister Faisal Ayub Khokhar and Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Ahmed Khan. Adviser to PCB Chairman Aamir Mir, former cricketer Wahab Riaz, and members of Pakistan’s 2017 Champions Trophy-winning squad also attended. The squad members present included Sarfaraz Ahmed, Junaid Khan, Hasan Ali, Azhar Ali, Mohammad Amir, Wahab Riaz, Shadab Khan, Imad Wasim, and Haris Sohail. Notable international players such as former South African batsman JP Duminy and New Zealand pacer Tim Southee were also in attendance.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and ICC CEO Geoff Allardice were warmly welcomed at the ceremony.

During his speech, Naqvi expressed that Gaddafi Stadium was fully prepared for the tournament, calling it a historic moment for Pakistan. Allardice shared his excitement for the event, emphasizing that Pakistan had a golden opportunity to showcase its passion for cricket. He also recalled witnessing Pakistan’s victory in the 2017 Champions Trophy final at The Oval.

Both Naqvi and Allardice praised the rapid renovations of Gaddafi Stadium and Karachi’s National Stadium, assuring fans of an action-packed tournament in the weeks to come.
