olio Outbreak in Pakistan Continues to Worsen, 68 Cases Reported in 2024

Punjab and Islamabad have each reported one case.

ISLAMABAD: The polio outbreak in Pakistan is intensifying, with the National Institute of Health (NIH) confirming a new case in Dera Ismail Khan. This brings the total number of polio cases in the country to 68 so far this year.

Dera Ismail Khan has been significantly impacted, with 10 reported cases, according to the Emergency Operation Center. Balochistan remains the hardest-hit province, with 27 cases, followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 20 cases, and Sindh with 19 cases. Punjab and Islamabad have each reported one case.

The increase in cases highlights the urgent need for enhanced vaccination efforts and greater public awareness to prevent further spread of the virus. Health authorities are calling on parents to ensure their children are vaccinated to protect them from the life-altering effects of polio.
