OGDC announces significant natural gas discovery in Khairpur district of Sindh

OGDC finds new gas in Khairpur and starts oil production in Hyderabad within the same week.

Khairpur District – (Web Desk) – Pakistan’s state-owned oil company OGDC has found a new gas field in Sindh. The discovery was made at a well called Sahito-1 in Khairpur district.

The well was drilled deep into the ground. It went down to 3,870 meters. Engineers tested the well and found a strong flow of gas. The well is now producing 17.2 million cubic feet of gas every day. That is a healthy amount for a new well.

OGDC owns 95% of this well. A government company called GHPL owns the remaining 5%. The drilling started on December 24 last year. OGDC’s own team of engineers handled the entire job.

This is good news for Pakistan. The country has long struggled to meet its energy needs. This new gas find could help close that gap a little.

Just two days before this announcement, OGDC shared another piece of good news. The company started oil production from a well in Hyderabad called Pasakhi-13. This was Pakistan’s first horizontal oil well drilled in a certain type of rock formation. That is a big deal for local drilling skills.

That well is currently producing around 460 barrels of oil per day. Engineers used a special steering technology to drill it. They had to guide the drill through a very narrow three meter window inside the rock. It was a tricky job but they pulled it off.

Both discoveries coming so close together show that OGDC is moving forward. The company is building its own skills and finding new energy sources for the country.
