No Peak Hour Load Shedding, Power Supply Improves

Hydropower Boost Improves Grid Stability, Says Power Division

ISLAMABAD: (News Desk) – The Power Division has stated that no load management was carried out during peak hours on the night of April 29, indicating improved stability in the national electricity supply.

According to the spokesperson, hydropower generation has reached around 6,000 megawatts, out of a total installed capacity of 11,500 megawatts. The increase in electricity production has also been supported by the allocation of locally produced gas to additional power plants, helping strengthen overall generation capacity.

Officials said improved hydropower availability, combined with enhanced use of domestic gas resources, has contributed to stabilizing the national grid. The southern transmission network also played a key role, supplying an additional 500 megawatts to the system and adding 100 megawatts of support capacity.

The spokesperson clarified that any economic load management currently being implemented is limited to feeders with high line losses and is not linked to peak-hour load shedding, which remains suspended.

However, challenges persist due to reduced LNG availability amid global supply constraints, affecting nearly 4,700 megawatts of generation capacity. Authorities expressed optimism that improved LNG imports and increased water releases in coming days will help eliminate the nighttime power shortfall.
