No Flood Threat, Major Rivers Flowing Normally: PDMA

Guddu, Sukkur barrages witness medium flood level

Lahore-The flood situation in Punjab is gradually normalizing as water levels in major rivers recede, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).

However, the United Nations has warned that Pakistan faces a “grave humanitarian crisis,” with millions of people displaced by record monsoon rains and flooding.

A PDMA spokesperson said water levels in flood-hit areas are rapidly decreasing. The flow in the Indus, Jhelum, Ravi, Chenab, and Dera Ghazi Khan rivers has returned to normal. The water situation at Panjnad is also reported as stable.

However, moderate flooding continues at Ganda Singh Wala in the Sutlej River, while low-level flooding is observed at Sulemanki and Islam headworks.

As water level rose at the Moro Bridge in Dadu, several katcha (riverine) areas in Mehar and Dadu tehsils were deluged.

A breach in an embankment at Nayo Goth inundated four more villages, destroying crops of cotton, sesame and others.

With the latest breaches, the total number of flood-inundated villages in the district has climbed to 46, while road access to Mehar and Dadu towns has been cut off.

At Sukkur Barrage, the Indus River flow has dropped by 24,000 cusecs over the past 24 hours. Officials said the flow is expected to recede further during the next day, adding that the flood surge will likely reach Kotri Barrage between Monday and Tuesday.

Relief operations are underway in affected areas, with local administrations on alert under the instructions of the Punjab chief minister. Citizens have been advised to contact helpline 1129 in case of emergencies.
