Nintendo Switch 2 to Launch with 'Welcome Tour' Game, Backward Compatibility
Nintendo has officially revealed that the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 will be released worldwide on June 5, 2025. The announcement was made during a special Nintendo Direct presentation on April 2, 2025, showcasing the exciting new features of the upcoming console.
The Nintendo Switch 2 will feature notable upgrades, including a 7.9-inch 1080p LCD screen with HDR support and a 120Hz refresh rate, offering gamers smoother and more vibrant visuals than its predecessor. The console will also come with 256GB of internal storage, allowing players to store more games and media than ever before.
The redesigned Joy-Con controllers will now attach magnetically, featuring a new “C” button, which enhances interactive chat and screenshare functions, making multiplayer experiences more engaging.
At launch, several exciting games will be available, including the much-anticipated “Mario Kart World”, which introduces an open-world mode where players can explore levels freely. To provide more details about this new mode, a special “Mario Kart Direct” event has been scheduled for April 17, 2025.

Additionally, “Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour”, a game designed to help players familiarize themselves with the system’s new features, will be available at launch. The console will also remain compatible with most physical and digital games from the original Nintendo Switch, though some titles may not be fully supported.
To give fans an early hands-on experience, Nintendo will host “Switch 2 Experience” events in Los Angeles, New York, London, and Paris starting later this month.
