Neymar Reflects on Year-Long Injury Struggle

Brazilian Star Opens Up About Emotional Toll Ahead of Return to Al Hilal

Brazilian footballer Neymar recently opened up about the emotional toll of his absence from the game, stating that he “suffered every day” while recovering from injury. The 32-year-old star, who is preparing to make his much-anticipated return to Al Hilal, Saudi Arabia’s leading football club, was visibly emotional as he recounted his struggles watching his team succeed in the Saudi Pro League during his year-long absence, according to Goal.

Neymar, who joined Al Hilal in 2023 on a two-year contract, had to step away from the field after sustaining a knee injury during 2026 World Cup qualifiers in October 2023. In an interview with NR Sports YouTube channel, Neymar became tearful while recalling the moment he realized the severity of his injury. “I felt an immense pain, and I knew right then that it was serious. All I want is to play football,” he said. “Being away from the pitch every day has been the hardest part. My focus has always been on my family, friends, and the game. Every time I’ve been injured, I’ve come back stronger, and this time will be no different.”

Neymar’s comments also addressed rumors surrounding his future, dismissing speculation that his time in the Middle East might end prematurely due to his extended recovery. Having now resumed full training, he has been included in Al Hilal’s squad for their upcoming AFC Champions League match against Al Ain.

Neymar’s contract with Al Hilal is set to expire in the summer of 2025, but the deal includes an option to extend his stay in Riyadh for an additional year.
