New Zealand Nears Historic Test Series Win in India After Dominant Bowling Display
Santner’s 7-wicket haul dismantles India’s batting lineup; New Zealand leads by 301 runs heading into the final day.

India-(Sports Reporter): New Zealand is on the cusp of a landmark Test series victory in India after dismissing the hosts for just 156 runs in the second Test in Pune.
Mitchell Santner led the charge with a stellar performance, taking 7 wickets for 53 runs, which helped New Zealand secure a first-innings lead of 103. India’s batting lineup crumbled under Santner’s left-arm spin on a challenging pitch, wrapping up their innings in just 45.3 overs. Ravindra Jadeja was India’s top scorer with 38, but his efforts were not enough to stabilize the innings, echoing their struggle in the first Test, where they were dismissed for 46.
New Zealand, leading the three-match series 1-0, finished the day at 198-5 in their second innings, extending their lead to a strong 301 runs. Captain Tom Latham contributed a crucial 86 runs, while Tom Blundell and Glenn Phillips remained at the crease with scores of 30 and 9, respectively.
Santner noted the importance of adding more runs to reduce pressure on their bowlers and praised the team’s adaptability against the Indian spinners under difficult conditions.
For India, Washington Sundar was a standout, taking four wickets in New Zealand’s second innings and raising his match tally to 11 after an impressive 7-59 on the first day. Yet, India’s batting lineup faltered again, struggling against New Zealand’s effective spin attack.
As the game heads into the final day, New Zealand is on the verge of achieving their first-ever Test series win in India—a historic feat, as they last tasted Test victory on Indian soil in 1988.
