New Zealand Defeats South Africa by 50 Runs to Qualify for ICC Champions Trophy Final

Lahore – New Zealand secured their spot in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 by defeating South Africa by 50 runs in the second semi-final at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.

Batting first, New Zealand posted a massive total of 363 runs, thanks to brilliant centuries from Rachin Ravindra (108) and captain Kane Williamson (102). Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips also contributed valuable 49-run innings, leading New Zealand to a formidable total. South Africa’s bowlers, including Lungi Ngidi (3 wickets) and Kagiso Rabada (2 wickets), fought hard but couldn’t prevent the onslaught.

In reply, South Africa had a rocky start, losing their first wicket at just 20 runs when Ryan Rickelton was dismissed for 17. Captain Temba Bavuma and Rassie van der Dussen then formed a solid partnership, adding 95 runs. Bavuma completed a half-century but was dismissed for 56. Van der Dussen top-scored for South Africa with 69 runs.

Despite a valiant effort from David Miller, who played aggressively and completed his century in the final over, South Africa could only manage 312 runs in their allotted 50 overs, falling short by 50 runs.

For New Zealand, Mitchell Santner was the standout bowler, claiming 3 wickets, while Glenn Phillips and Matt Henry took 2 wickets each. Rachin Ravindra was named the Player of the Match for his exceptional century.

New Zealand will now face India in the final, which promises to be an exciting clash between two of the tournament’s strongest teams.

It is worth noting that the previous day’s first semi-final between Australia and India was also held in Dubai, where India triumphed over Australia to secure their place in the final.
