New transport fares effective across Punjab today
Punjab cuts bus and rail fares following a diesel price reduction, easing travel costs for commuters across the province.
Punjab-(Special-Correspondent / Web Desk)— Following the recent reduction in petroleum prices, the Punjab Transport Department has announced a 5% cut in bus and rail fares across the province. This move is designed to ease travel costs for daily commuters and ensure transparent fare practices at bus terminals.
The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) secretary has instructed all bus stands to immediately display updated fare lists and implement the new rates. The price drop follows a Rs12.84 per liter decrease in diesel prices, prompting the transport department to adjust ticket costs accordingly.
Fares for key routes have been reduced between Rs50 and Rs320, including:
-
Lahore to Sargodha: Rs50 decrease, now Rs1,060
-
Lahore to Islamabad: Rs100 decrease, now Rs1,950
-
Lahore to Peshawar: Rs120 decrease, now Rs2,380
-
Lahore to Rahim Yar Khan: Rs140 decrease, now Rs2,810
-
Lahore to Hyderabad: Rs300 decrease, now Rs5,800
-
Lahore to Karachi (Rail): Rs320 decrease, now Rs6,040
The RTA secretary confirmed inspections at bus terminals to ensure compliance with the new fare structure. He stated, “We are actively coordinating with transporters, and all revised fares are effective today.”
This initiative is expected to provide immediate relief to commuters while maintaining fare transparency across the province, ensuring smoother and more affordable travel for everyone.
