Israel’s military began “limited, localized, and targeted” ground raids into southern Lebanon against Hezbollah on October 1, days after launching heavy air strikes throughout the country.
Israel’s military and security officials considered announcing the end of the ground offensive last week, Kan reported, but Halevi green-lighted new orders to expand the assault, which could include thousands more soldiers.
Earlier, Israel’s new defence minister, Israel Katz, said Hezbollah had been “defeated”.
While, Arab and Muslim leaders have arrived in Saudi Arabia ahead of a summit on Monday centred on the ongoing conflicts involving Israel in Gaza and Lebanon, Al Jazeera reported.
The official Saudi Press Agency reported that attendees will “discuss the continued Israeli aggression on the Palestinian territories and the Lebanese Republic, and the current developments in the region”.
Saudi Arabia’s foreign ministry initially announced the summit in late October, following the first meeting of an “international alliance” advocating a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
This summit takes place a year after a similar gathering in Riyadh, attended by members of the Cairo-based Arab League and the Jeddah-based Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, where leaders condemned Israeli actions in Gaza as “barbaric”.
The state-backed Saudi news channel, al-Ekhbariya, aired footage on Sunday showing Nigerian President Bola Tinubu and Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati arriving in Riyadh.
