NEPRA approves reduction in average electricity tariff for 2026

NEPRA’s latest tariff decision lowers electricity costs for consumers while finalizing distribution companies’ revenue and operational requirements for 2026.

NEPRA – (Special Correspondent / Web Desk) – The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved a modest decrease in electricity prices after finalizing the national average power tariff for 2026.

Under the new decision, the average electricity rate has been set at Rs33.38 per unit, reflecting a reduction of 62 paisas compared to the previously approved Rs34 per unit for the 2025–26 fiscal year.

The authority has also approved the overall revenue requirement of power distribution companies for 2026, estimating it at Rs3,379 billion.

This includes Rs2,923 billion for the cost of electricity purchases and Rs456.15 billion allocated for distribution companies’ operational expenses, profit margins, and previous years’ financial adjustments.

NEPRA has formally conveyed its decision to the federal government through an official letter for implementation, paving the way for the revised tariff to take effect.
