Shehbaz outlines PML-N’s pro-poor priorities ahead of general elections
ISLAMABAD – Ready to bury the hatchet, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has decided to put aside his past confrontations with two retired generals as he prepares to return to Pakistan and lead his party, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, in the upcoming general elections.
According to sources familiar with recent party meetings in London, the PML-N leader will redirect his efforts towards rescuing Pakistan from its current economic turmoil.
The attendees of these discussions included Nawaz Sharif, Shehbaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, and former finance minister Ishaq Dar, who is leaving for Pakistan today (Saturday) after a two-week stay in London.
Sources revealed that significant decisions were made about the party’s narrative for the impending general elections. Shehbaz Sharif and Ishaq Dar, according to insiders, offered valuable guidance to party chief Nawaz Sharif regarding his return to the homeland and the strategic direction of the party.
It was determined that a conciliatory approach should be embraced and promoted, with a commitment to avoiding retaliatory politics and confrontation with the establishment.
The consensus reached during the meetings was that the party should actively address Pakistan’s major issues, viewing the current situation as a consequence of divisive politics.
Sources said it was unanimously decided that the party’s future focus would revolve around economic matters, with the primary objective being the extraction of Pakistan from its economic difficulties.

Outlining key priorities of the PML-N for the upcoming general elections, former premier Shehbaz Sharif stated Saturday that the primary objective of party supremo Mian Nawaz Sharif was to alleviate the suffering of the people.
According to Shehbaz, these key priorities include providing assistance to the underprivileged, revitalising the country’s economy and eradicating terrorism.
The PML-N president reiterated his party’s unwavering commitment to addressing the challenges facing the common man.
Shehbaz emphasised that under Nawaz Sharif’s leadership, Pakistan would diligently work towards resolving crises, stabilising the economy, offering relief to citizens, fostering national unity and eliminating the scourge of terrorism.
He also stressed that their party’s another top priority was to empower and educate the youth, ensuring a promising future for them.
Earlier, Shehbaz Sharif chaired a consultative meeting to review reception arrangements for Mian Nawaz Sharif’s return to the country on October 21.
He instructed party leaders to enhance coordination with various organisations to ensure an effective and well-organised welcome for their party chief.
