NATO destroys ballistic missile fired from Iran toward Türkiye.

NATO intercepts Iranian missile heading toward Turkey, as Ankara warns against escalation and vows strong action to protect its airspace.

Iran – Turkish  -(Web Desk) – A missile fired from Iran and tracked as it moved through Iraqi and Syrian airspace toward Turkey was shot down by NATO air defence systems, Turkish officials confirmed on Wednesday.

In a statement, Turkey’s defence ministry said the ballistic projectile was detected early and intercepted by NATO air and missile defence units deployed in the eastern Mediterranean before it could enter Turkish airspace. The missile was successfully neutralised mid-air.

Officials added that debris recovered in the Dortyol district of Hatay province was identified as fragments from the interceptor missile used to destroy the threat. No injuries or damage were reported in the incident.

“Any steps necessary to defend our territory and airspace will be taken decisively and without hesitation,” it added.

“We reiterate that we reserve the right to respond to any hostile actions directed at our country.”

After the incident, Turkey warned Tehran against any steps that could escalate the war, with Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan telling his Iranian counterpart in a phone call that “any steps that could lead to the spread of conflict should be avoided”, a ministry source said.
