National Games: Arshad Nadeem Wins Gold in Javelin Throw

Arshad secured first place with an impressive throw of 81.81 meters.

KARACHI: Representing WAPDA, star javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem captured the gold medal in the men’s javelin event at the 35th National Games at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi, producing a winning throw of 81.81 metres.

WAPDA’s Yasir Sultan earned silver with a best effort of 70.77m, while Abrar Ali of Pakistan Army secured the bronze after reaching 67.68m.

Arshad, widely regarded as Pakistan’s leading javelin thrower and an international-level Olympian, has drawn major attention at the National Games. His participation—and dominant performance—has given a significant boost to local athletics, particularly inspiring young javelin athletes.

Just two days earlier, during the opening ceremony, Arshad expressed optimism that the National Games would serve as a strong platform for emerging talent across the country.

“These National Games will help uncover new talent for Pakistan,” he told the media, adding that standout performers could soon represent the nation abroad. “I’m confident we will see promising athletes in every discipline, and many of them will go on to make Pakistan proud internationally.”

He further noted that the best performers would be invited to a national training camp ahead of a packed international calendar next year.

“Top competitors from the Games will be called to camp. With so many events lined up, they may well earn a chance to represent Pakistan,” he said.

The javelin thrower, who recently defended his title at the Islamic Solidarity Games, added that he remains focused on major global competitions—including the Diamond League, Commonwealth Games, and Asian Games. After overcoming injury issues earlier in the year, Arshad said he is now fully fit and aiming for even bigger achievements.

“I performed strongly despite injury concerns, but now I’m completely fit. If I stay in this condition, I will be aiming for the record throw,” he remarked, reaffirming his ambition to keep progressing and motivate the next generation of Pakistani athletes.
