Islamabad: The National Assembly has commenced the budget approval process, endorsing 121 demands from ministries and divisions totaling over 8780 billion rupees, despite opposition objections.

In a session marked by rigorous debate, the Assembly greenlit allocations including 2149 billion rupees for the Ministry of Defense, 598 billion rupees for the Benazir Income Support Program, and substantial funds for sectors like education, health, and infrastructure.

Key decisions saw the rejection of 18 demands primarily from the Cabinet, Energy, and Finance divisions following contentious co-voting procedures. The session also witnessed opposition efforts to trim expenditures, with 216 motions for deduction, highlighting divisions on crucial financial allocations.
