Nation to Observe ‘Youm-e-Tashakur’ on May 16 to Honor Armed Forces’ Victory
Gun salute will be held in federal, provincial capitals with special prayers in mosques
Islamabad-(Mudassar Iqbal)-The federal government has declared Friday, May 16, as Youm-e-Tashakur to honor the Pakistan Armed Forces’ historic victory in Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos. The day will commence with Quran recitations and special prayers in mosques nationwide. Official celebrations will include a 31-gun salute in Islamabad and 21-gun salutes in provincial capitals. Flag-hoisting ceremonies will be held in Islamabad and provincial capitals, accompanied by changing of the guards ceremonies at Mazar-e-Quaid in Karachi and Mazar-e-Iqbal in Lahore.
Wreath-laying and prayer ceremonies will be held at monuments of martyrs, and special meetings with the families of the martyrs of Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos are also planned.
The main event of Youm-e-Tashakur will be held tomorrow night at the Pakistan Monument in Islamabad. The ceremony will be attended by notable figures from all walks of life. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will be the chief guest, while the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and heads of the armed forces will also be in attendance.
