Naqvi Denounces Politicization of Imran Khan’s Treatment

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi Rejects Political Interference in Khan’s Care

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Federal Interior Minister Senator Mohsin Naqvi on Tuesday addressed growing controversy over the medical treatment of former PTI chairman Imran Khan, asserting that attempts were made to politicize his care.

Speaking at a press conference in Lahore, Naqvi said the government had coordinated closely with PTI leadership to ensure proper treatment arrangements. However, he claimed Alima Khan vetoed hospital admission, fearing that approval would reduce the issue’s political leverage.

Naqvi explained that propaganda had been created around Khan’s eye treatment, emphasizing that any prisoner is entitled to medical care under the Constitution and law. He noted that the government had suggested a checkup by a renowned eye specialist, but PTI insisted on a week-long hospital stay, which authorities could not accommodate.

The minister confirmed that top public and private doctors were selected for the treatment. PTI lawyer Barrister Gohar was invited to oversee the doctors’ visit but declined after consulting party leadership. The medical team conducted the checkup around 3:30 PM, remaining on site for 90 minutes, including consultations with opposition leaders and their medical advisers. Doctors confirmed that Khan was receiving proper care, and he even received an eye injection as a precaution.

Naqvi criticized political attempts to create roadblocks and disturb public peace, stressing that the government had provided all required facilities and adhered to court orders for open roads. He described the politicization of Khan’s medical treatment as “inappropriate,” warning that misleading the public for political gain harms citizens.

Concluding his remarks, the Interior Minister said that all medical procedures are properly documented and maintained, and that sensitive details will not be disclosed publicly to prevent misuse.
