Nadra Briefs World Bank Delegation on Progress of Digital Economy Enhancement Project

ISLAMABAD: A high-level delegation from the World Bank visited the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) on Thursday to receive an update on the progress of the Digital Economy Enhancement Project (DEEP), a pivotal initiative aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s digital economy and digital ID systems.

Led by Martin Raiser, Vice President for the South Asia Region, and Najy Benhassine, Country Director for Pakistan, the World Bank team was briefed by Nadra officials on the achievements made under the DEEP initiative. The project is designed to improve financial inclusion and enhance citizens’ access to government services through digital identification and services.

During the meeting, Nadra representatives highlighted the advancements made in digital services and infrastructure, demonstrating the project’s alignment with Pakistan’s Digital Pakistan Policy. The initiative aims to build critical digital infrastructure, facilitating the delivery of public services, promoting economic opportunities, and ensuring social protection.

The World Bank delegation expressed appreciation for the progress made so far and acknowledged the project’s vital role in supporting Pakistan’s digital transformation and economic development. They emphasized that DEEP is key to building the country’s capacity for providing digitally-enabled services to both citizens and businesses.

The DEEP initiative is supported by the World Bank and focuses on developing key public services, digital authentication systems, and responsible data exchange infrastructure. It also aims to foster a holistic approach to government services integration, ensuring a more efficient, accessible, and transparent public service delivery system across Pakistan.

The project underscores Pakistan’s commitment to building a robust digital economy and promoting inclusive access to essential services for all its citizens.
