Islamabad-Mudassar Iqbal-NA Secretariat’s Bold Move to Abolish 220 Unnecessary Posts, In a significant move, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has introduced wide-ranging administrative reforms in the National Assembly Secretariat, aiming to transform it into a dynamic and more productive organization. The reforms, approved by the NA Finance Committee, include the abolition of 220 non-essential posts, resulting in an annual saving of Rs. 563 million.

The reforms are part of Speaker Sadiq’s vision to right-size the National Assembly Secretariat, saving Rs. 1 billion annually. The reforms have been implemented in three phases, with the first two phases already completed, resulting in an annual saving of Rs. 56 crores. The third phase is expected to save an additional Rs. 40 crores.

The reforms also include the implementation of an austerity plan, rationalizing needs and requirements, improving procedures, ensuring transparency and accountability, and stopping further recruitment unless decided otherwise. A sub-committee has been formed to review the National Assembly Secretariat Employees Act 2018 to make it more compatible with the Civil Servants Act, 1973.

Additionally, a ‘ticketing and lodging committee’ has been formed to bring transparency in the execution of work, and the process of digitization has been initiated to introduce paperless and modern technologies. The construction of additional blocks of Parliament Lodges has also been directed to ensure timely completion.

Under Speaker Sadiq’s leadership, the solarization of the Parliament Building has already saved millions of rupees annually for the national exchequer.
