NA Committee Pushes for Kalur Kot-D.I. Khan Bridge Completion
Special Committee Formed to Oversee Kalur Kot Bridge Project
Islamabad — The National Assembly Standing Committee on Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) held its meeting today at the Ministry of IPC’s Committee Room, chaired by Member of National Assembly Mr. Muhammad Sana Ullah Khan Masti Khel.
The committee was briefed on the Kalur Kot–Dera Ismail Khan (D.I. Khan) Bridge over the Indus River and the Social Action Program (SAP). A representative from the National Highway Authority (NHA) provided details on the construction of the bridge’s connecting roads and guide banks.
The committee expressed displeasure over the absence of the NHA Secretary and Chairman during the session. It directed both the NHA and provincial governments to ensure budget allocation for the Kalur Kot–D.I. Khan Bridge project in the fiscal year 2025–26.
The committee also congratulated the newly elected body of the Pakistan Football Federation, with the IPC Secretary informing members that the elections were held in a transparent and impartial manner.
Further directives were issued for all relevant stakeholders, including the NHA and the provincial governments of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, to complete the construction of the bridge’s guide banks and access roads within FY 2025–26. These essential works have been pending since the bridge was completed four years ago.
The committee instructed that the IPC Ministry’s dedicated committee—headed by the IPC Secretary—should continue working on resolving issues related to the bridge’s connectivity. It also ordered the NHA to ensure the presence of the Kalur Kot Bridge Project Director at the follow-up meeting scheduled for 11:00 AM on May 30, 2025.
A special committee has been constituted, chaired by the IPC Secretary, with members including the Special Secretary of Punjab, a member of the NHA, and the Secretary for Irrigation from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
