Mustafa Kamal Alleges Altaf Hussain Behind Imran Farooq Murder
Mustafa Kamal Demands Case Reopened Against Altaf Hussain
KARACHI: MQM-Pakistan leader and Federal Minister Mustafa Kamal has alleged that MQM founder Altaf Hussain was responsible for the murder of Dr Imran Farooq.
Addressing a press conference in Karachi along with party leaders, Mustafa Kamal claimed that Altaf Hussain ordered the killing of Dr Imran Farooq and described it as a “birthday gift” given on September 17. He accused the MQM founder of being intoxicated and betraying party workers who had devoted decades to the movement.
Mustafa Kamal said that the founder of MQM staged drama over Dr Imran Farooq’s death, appealed for donations in the name of sending the body to Pakistan, and later repeated similar actions after the recent death of Dr Imran Farooq’s wife. He alleged that millions of pounds were collected from around the world, yet no financial support was provided to the bereaved family.
The federal minister further claimed that despite large sums of money allegedly recovered from Altaf Hussain’s residence and office, no assistance was given to Dr Imran Farooq’s widow. He said there was no meaningful contact with the family after Dr Imran Farooq’s death.
Mustafa Kamal urged Altaf Hussain to reopen the case so the real perpetrators could be exposed, saying he was willing to personally fund legal efforts. He also alleged that UK authorities were aware of who was behind the murder and criticized what he described as political exploitation of the tragedy.

He called Altaf Hussain a traitor to the Mohajir community and accused him of damaging Karachi and destroying the city’s social and political fabric over decades. Mustafa Kamal said he would fully cooperate in efforts to bring Dr Imran Farooq’s killers to justice and appealed to the victim’s children to pursue the case through legal channels.
He concluded by saying that MQM-Pakistan remains committed to rebuilding Karachi and restoring it to its rightful place.
