MQM-P delegation calls on PM to demand package for Karachi, Hyderabad
MQM Pakistan Pushes for Article 140A and Development Funds for Karachi and Hyderabad in PM Meeting
MQM & PM – (Web Desk) – A delegation from MQM Pakistan sat down with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during his visit to Karachi on Thursday. The two sides held a productive meeting that stretched over forty minutes.
At the heart of the discussion was MQM Pakistan’s long-standing demand to include Article 140A in the 28th Constitutional Amendment. The delegation reminded the Prime Minister that this commitment was part of a mutual agreement reached before the current government came into power.
MQM Pakistan also pointed out that Article 140A was left out of the 27th Amendment as well, largely due to pressure from another political party. At that time, they were given assurances that it would be incorporated in the next amendment — a promise that is yet to be fulfilled.
The party made it clear to the Prime Minister that empowering people at the grassroots level has always been a core part of their agenda. They stressed that their election manifesto explicitly called for the transfer of powers to local bodies, and they expect that commitment to be honored without further delay.
MQM demanded that many problems will be solved if Karachi and Hyderabad receive development packages from the federal government. The city should not be ignored in the upcoming budget.
The Prime Minister told MQM that he will also pay a detailed visit to Karachi soon.
