More Cloudbursts Expected in Coming Weeks, Warns NDMA Chairman

Gilgit-Baltistan was also hit by a devastating cloudburst, leading to torrential rains, flash floods, and landslides

ISLAMABAD: Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Lieutenant General Inam Haider, has warned of the possibility of more cloudbursts in the coming weeks, potentially triggering flood-like situations similar to those in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

Speaking to the media, Lt. Gen. Inam Haider said that the next two to three weeks could see an increase in cloudburst events, particularly in northern Punjab, Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK), and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB). He urged relevant authorities and the public to remain on high alert.

The warning comes amid a rising death toll in KP, where recent monsoon rains, floods, landslides, and lightning strikes have claimed at least 328 lives, with dozens more injured.

Just weeks earlier, Gilgit-Baltistan was also hit by a devastating cloudburst, leading to torrential rains, flash floods, and landslides, resulting in several casualties and widespread destruction.

The NDMA continues to monitor the situation closely and has advised residents in vulnerable areas to take necessary precautions as the monsoon season enters its most active phase.
