Modi Expected to Decline Pakistan’s Invitation for Upcoming SCO Summit
Indian media reports suggest that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to decline Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s invitation to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, which is scheduled to be held in Islamabad on October 15 and 16.
Following SCO protocol, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended invitations to the heads of government of all SCO member states, including India, three days ago. However, according to SAMAA TV, there has been no official response from India confirming or rejecting the invitation.
Shehbaz Calls for Unity Beyond Geopolitics
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif addressed the 24th Summit of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Astana, Kazakhstan. In his speech, he emphasized the SCO’s vital role in promoting regional peace and security.

During his July 4 address, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the beauty of Astana, expressed his gratitude to Kazakhstan for their warm hospitality, and highlighted the importance of the SCO in fostering social and economic development among its member states. He also recognized the organization’s efforts in maintaining regional peace.
Additionally, Shehbaz Sharif congratulated Chinese President Xi Jinping on taking over the SCO chairmanship for the coming year and lauded the SCO’s initiatives on environmental protection.
