The case has drawn widespread attention for its rarity and the risks involved in such internal obstructions.

HURGHADA— In a highly unusual medical case, doctors at the General Hospital in Hurghada successfully removed a mobile phone from a patient’s stomach during emergency surgery.

According to the Red Sea Health Directorate, the patient arrived at the hospital in severe distress, reporting intense abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, and general weakness. Medical scans and X-rays revealed the presence of a small mobile phone lodged in his stomach — reportedly swallowed by accident.

Hospital director Dr. Karim Al-Shabrawi confirmed that a specialized surgical team was quickly assembled to perform the operation. The procedure was successful, and the patient is now in stable condition, though he remains under observation for further monitoring.

Authorities have not disclosed how or why the phone was swallowed, and the patient’s identity has not been made public.
