Mitchell Marsh’s Blazing Century Seals Series Win for Australia Over New Zealand
Earlier, New Zealand posted 156-9 after being put into bat, with opener Tim Seifert top-scoring with 48.
MOUNT MAUNGANUI – Captain Mitchell Marsh delivered a sensational unbeaten century to guide Australia to a thrilling three-wicket win over New Zealand in the third and final T20 International on Saturday, clinching the series 2-0.
Chasing a target of 157, Marsh smashed an unbeaten 103 off just 52 balls, including seven sixes, to rescue Australia from a top-order collapse and secure victory with two overs to spare. It was Marsh’s maiden T20I century and came in a high-pressure situation after Australia had slumped to 38-5 in pursuit of the modest target.
The visitors had already retained the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy after winning the first match and seeing the second washed out, but Marsh’s heroics ensured a dominant series finish.

Earlier, New Zealand posted 156-9 after being put into bat, with opener Tim Seifert top-scoring with 48. Captain Michael Bracewell (26) and Jimmy Neesham (25) added useful runs in the middle order. Australia’s bowlers kept the pressure on, with Sean Abbott starring with 3-25, while Xavier Bartlett chipped in with two wickets.
In reply, Australia’s top order crumbled under pressure as Jimmy Neesham tore through the batting lineup, finishing with 4-26. But Marsh stood tall amid the collapse, anchoring the innings with composure and power-hitting. He brought up his century in just 50 balls and was later named both Player of the Match and Player of the Series.
“It was a little bit of pressure in the end, but it’s obviously great to win an away series in New Zealand,” Marsh said after the match. “I loved our intent with the bat — that’s how we want to play.”
Australia’s win adds further momentum ahead of upcoming international fixtures, while New Zealand will be left ruing missed opportunities despite strong individual performances.
