Australia has revealed its squad for the upcoming one-day series against Pakistan, scheduled for next month.
Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head will not participate in the series as they have been granted paternity leave. This opens the opportunity for Jake Fraser-McGurk and Matt Short to partner as openers.
Cameron Green will also be absent from the 14-man squad as he is set to undergo back surgery this week, which will keep him sidelined for six months.
Pat Cummins returns as captain after missing the recent tour of England, where he took a break. This will be his first ODI series since leading Australia to victory in the 2023 World Cup.
Marcus Stoinis is back in the squad after being left out during the England tour, while emerging players Cooper Connolly and Aaron Hardie have also been selected.
Chief selector George Bailey emphasized the importance of this series as the last ODI competition before the Champions Trophy in Pakistan. He noted that the squad’s balance was designed with both the upcoming Test summer and preparations for the Champions Trophy in mind.
Australia will play three ODIs against Pakistan in Melbourne, Adelaide, and Perth, followed by three Twenty20 matches, with that squad to be announced later.
Australia’s ODI Squad:
Pat Cummins (captain), Sean Abbott, Cooper Connolly, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Aaron Hardie, Josh Hazlewood, Josh Inglis, Marnus Labuschagne, Glenn Maxwell, Matthew Short, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa.
